EMDR Therapy in Colorado
You know what happened. So why does it still feel like it’s happening?
You may understand exactly where your anxiety, self-doubt, or reactions come from. You have talked about it, thought about it, and tried to move forward.
But your body still reacts. Certain situations bring everything rushing back. You find yourself shutting down, becoming overwhelmed, or falling into the same patterns even when part of you knows you are safe now.
Sometimes insight is not enough.
EMDR can help you process what still feels stuck.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a structured therapy that helps your brain process distressing experiences that continue to affect you in the present.
EMDR may be helpful if you experience:
Memories or experiences that still feel emotionally charged
Anxiety or panic connected to past experiences
Strong reactions to certain people or situations
Negative beliefs about yourself that are difficult to shake
Feeling on guard even when you know you are safe
Shame, guilt, or self-blame
Patterns you understand but cannot seem to change
You do not need to tell every detail of what happened for EMDR to be effective.
The goal is not to forget. It is to feel different when you remember.
EMDR can help painful experiences feel more firmly rooted in the past rather than continuing to shape your present.
Over time, you may notice that triggers feel less intense, your body settles more easily, and beliefs such as I’m not safe,I’m not good enough, or I should have done something differently begin to lose their grip.
The memory is still part of your story. It just does not have to carry the same weight.
What EMDR looks like with me
We will not jump straight into processing difficult memories.
We start by getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and making sure you have ways to feel grounded before beginning EMDR. Together, we identify what feels important to work on and move at a pace that feels manageable.
EMDR is one tool I use within a larger trauma-informed approach. I also draw from narrative and body-based therapy depending on what you need.
